We have a lot of Japanese food and condiments here, so I’ve got some suggestions for you:

Kinja'd!!!

The yuzu kosho is citrus and a bit hot ... excellent on anything. The onion is so good on arugula, and the sesame is just right. You can order this (and their excellent mayonnaise) on the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! - 15 bucks gets you free shipping.

And these are excellent - fry/steam on one side, and serve with Japanese hot sauce mixed with ponzu. My favorite is pork and leek, but they’re all good. In the freezer case of your Japanese grocer or perhaps your regular place.

Pork and leek - that sounds good. Not a big mushroom fan, so I’ll pass on the chicken ones. And I’ll top them off with some of this yummy stuff, my new favorite:

Ah man, I love me some Gyoza’s. Have you ever had okonomiyaki? I feel like, with the right ingredients, that would be something you could put together quite well (judging from your past food focused posts..:D..)

We’ve made it here, and these photos are from my last night in Tokyo, when we went to an okonomiyaki restaurant in Shibuya.

My wife is from Japan and her father is a chef, my wife likes to cook too. But I spend a lot of time asking, what is that?

Probably just wise to eat it, ask no questions, and mention that you’d like more. I’ve survived that way ... SigOther is Japanese. So I know where you are.

Well I do if it smells ok, but shit like natto, no way jose. I eat quite a bit of stuff some westerners won’t touch, at least it seems that way based on who I was around living there. Seems like all we do is eat when we visit now, they are all so thin! Her mom can put the beeru away, then I have to keep up!

Great photos ... natto, at least for me, tastes like nothing in particular, so I don’t go for it. But the cold noodle soup base? Yes please.

Food is no joke in that family, they always go all out when we come. Her uncle owns a fish distribution business and her dad is the head chef at a hotel and the restaurant in the hotel. Let’s just say when we visit her uncle shows up with fish that literally melts in your mouth. I like a good chanko, sumo style, I can eat that all the time and not get tired of it. I just found out that during the Korean War the Koreans made a kind of chanko called military stew and it had spam and all that crap canned ration meat in it, they still make it. Being from Hawaii I felt their plight, all that canned meat left over after wars goes to the locals!

Sumo stew is good, and will pack the pounds on if you aren’t careful. SigOther introduced me, a Yank, to Spam, because she’s from Okinawa. And if you’re from Hawaii, you know from Spam.

I will be buying all of these. Been watching mad japanese shows like samurai gourmet, midnight diner, and japanese originator. I want to eat all things.

Lots of good things online or at your local Japanese grocery. I am a big fan.

I do love the oriental grocery stores. I bought a ton of shishito peppers for like a buck. Love those things and trying new stuff.
